Evacuation levels remain unchanged in Gasquet, Big Flat
Due to predicted winds and heat, as of 10 a.m., Thursday, Sept. 24, evacuation levels in Del Norte County are unchanged and remain in place until further notice.
The Del Norte County Sheriff’s Office met with officials from the Del Norte County Office of Emergency Services, the Six Rivers National Forest and Northern Rockies Incident Management Team 2 to discuss current fire and evacuation conditions. Based on the predicted increases in wind activity and temperature, it was determined that the current evacuation levels would remain in place until further notice.
The communities along Pioneer Road up to the California/Oregon border remain at Evacuation Level 2 — “Be Set.”
Gasquet and Big Flat remain at Evacuation Level 1 — “Be Ready.”
Hiouchi is no longer under an evacuation warning.
The Del Norte County Sheriff’s Office will continue to monitor the situation and is actively coordinating with the Northern Rockies IMT 2 Commanders of the Slater and Devil Fires. The situation is constantly being re-evaluated and a public meeting will be held in the Gasquet area early next week.
