The Wild Rivers Chamber Concert last Friday at the CC United Methodist Church did not disappoint. Chamber music is classical music that began with small groups of individual players playing their own unique parts but without a conductor. Melodic ideas are passed from one instrument to another and the players set tempos. This can be called the nonverbal“ conversation” or Musical Dialogue playing out in these Chamber Ensembles. Intense real-time listening is done to respond and adapt to each other instrumentally and stay synchronized. So if learning a new language increases cognitive reserve, then think of how much cognitive reserve increases by playing an instrument in a Chamber Ensemble. The performances were outstanding Each Woodwind Quintet, Flute Quartet and Jazz Quartet was played with rhythmic vitality with soaring melodies that brought joy to the hearts and minds of our community.
