Crescent City man wants to share vision for veterans monument
Rick Page has a vision to pay tribute to fallen veterans and wants to share it with the public this weekend.
Page, a Crescent City resident, said he’s been working on the idea for three years and now has a model he hopes propels it forward to a future full-sized project for city or Del Norte County.
The model features a lighthouse, where visitors can pay respect inside and contribute biographical information of local veterans. The lighthouse is surrounded by five obelisks that pays tribute to each branch of the Armed Forces and U.S. Coast Guard.
Page’s own father, Gerald Sr., was a veteran of the Korean War for the Marines. He has since passed away 15 years ago.
“I just want to pay respect to veterans who put their lives in danger to keep the rest of us protected,” Page said.
Page said he’s taken the model to the administrative offices of Crescent City and Del Norte County and hopes to hear back from officials about ginning up interest in the project.
He added he’s putting it on display this weekend at Battery Point Lighthouse after 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday to help increase its visibility and build excitement in the community.
“I’d like to get veterans to especially see it for any changes they’d like to make,” he added.
