Vintage Cars and Community
Crescent City’s annual Sea Cruise weekend officially kicked off Friday morning as registration opened at 10 a.m., followed by the beloved Show and Shine event at 4 p.m. Nearly 200 vintage vehicles lined both sides of Third Street, transforming downtown into a gleaming corridor of chrome, color, and nostalgia. The event, now a staple of Del Norte County’s fall season, is hosted by the Northern Knights Car Club of Northern California, a nonprofit dedicated to preserving the passion for classic cars while raising funds to support local youth through scholarships, events, and community donations.
The day began under a light blanket of coastal fog, but by mid‑afternoon the weather settled into the kind of crisp, gentle warmth that makes fall on the North Coast so memorable. Families, car enthusiasts, and visitors wandered the streets, admiring polished engines, restored interiors, and the personal stories behind each vehicle. The atmosphere was safe, relaxed, and unmistakably community‑centered.
One moment captured the spirit of the day perfectly. A young girl approached me with a box of Nutty Buddy ice cream cones, offering one so it wouldn’t melt. Her brother stood beside her, both children happily licking their cones with chocolate smudged across their faces. I laughed and told their mother, “Looks like they’re thoroughly enjoying that ice cream.” I declined the offer only because I had just finished a full meal before arriving—but the gesture reflected the warmth and generosity that define Sea Cruise.
Inside the Crescent City–Del Norte County Chamber of Commerce office—now located on Third Street—the energy was just as lively. Chamber Director Cindy Vosberg, one of the most dedicated community leaders in the region, greeted visitors with her trademark enthusiasm. City Councilwoman Tinklemen volunteered alongside staff, and Larry from KCRE Radio was present to help promote the event and keep the excitement flowing.
Public safety and logistics were handled seamlessly. Crescent City Police officers made periodic rounds to ensure a safe environment, while City workers coordinated traffic flow, guiding vehicles in and out of the downtown corridor. The level of coordination required for an event of this size is significant, yet the result was effortless enjoyment for attendees.
The Northern Knights’ mission goes far beyond showcasing classic cars. The organization is committed to restoring and celebrating automotive history while investing in the next generation. Their fundraising efforts support youth programs, scholarships, and community initiatives—ensuring that the joy of Sea Cruise translates into meaningful opportunities for local kids.
Saturday’s festivities will continue at Front Street Park, where the final vehicle count is expected to reach approximately 298 cars, accompanied by nearly 25 vendors offering food, crafts, memorabilia, and more. With perfect weather, strong turnout, and a shared sense of community pride, Sea Cruise 2026 is shaping up to be one of Crescent City’s most memorable events of the year.
Saturday the cars had lined up at front beach park, music filled the air as the Coast Line Dancers showed their moves to the beat. Another perfect day for a favored annual event. The time flew by and now off to another event, Bras with a Cause.
