Why Did You Doubt
By Donna DeWolf This week I want to talk to you about our level of faith. We are told in the Bible that if we believe, all things are possible. I have said it before and I am saying it again today, we must believe. We must have faith
No matter what we are going through in life, we must have faith. Even a small amount of faith can lead to large rewards of answered prayers. I really like to reflect on the story of Peter walking on the water when I need to boost my faith.
Not because he walked on the water, even though that part is pretty terrific! I like to meditate on the words of Jesus when Peter began to sink.
The story is located in Matthew 14:23-31.
Jesus had sent the disciples across the river while he stayed back to pray. Sometime during the 4th watch, (between 3:00 AM and 6:00 AM), the disciples see Jesus walking on the water. Peter asks Jesus to call him to walk on the water. Jesus calls him and Peter gets out of the boat and begins walking on the water.
Suddenly the winds became boisterous and Peter became frightened, then he began to sink. He calls out to Jesus to save him, Immediately Jesus reaches out his hands and caught Peter. Then Jesus asks Peter, “Wherefore did you doubt”?
“Wherefore did you doubt”? Why did you doubt? Peter was walking on the water! Then he took his eyes off of Jesus and started looking at the wind. “Wherefore did you doubt”? That is the question we all need to ask ourselves whenever we find we have stopped living in faith and started living in doubt.
Do you have a tough situation that you are going through? Did it look like you were about to have a breakthrough, then suddenly things seemed to fall apart? Please get your focus back on Christ. He has all our answers. He is our hope!
I know it is easy to get sidetracked looking at our situations. I know it is easy to feel like throwing in the towel when our fight does not bring immediate results. I know it is easier to look at our circumstances because they are constantly in our view, they are constantly demanding our attention.
Yet, if we would learn to push our situations out of our way and focus on Jesus; our circumstances would change much quicker. The answer to our prayers to come much quicker.
This week my prayer for us all is to keep our focus on Jesus. That we would stop looking at all our unanswered prayers and start looking at all the times our prayers have been answered.
