The Core issue is human opinion versus God's Word: The battle for absolute truth

By Tori King

In 2 Timothy 3:16, Paul writes that “all Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness.”

The pressure to conform to the world's standards frequently overrides the call to stand firm in biblical convictions. As Christians, as noted in 2 Corinthians 10:5, we need to stand against anything that exalts itself against the knowledge of God's Word.

In Jeremiah 1:5, God declares that He knew us before we were formed in our mother’s womb, and in Genesis 1:27, He created them male and female. Genesis 9:6 says, "For God made man in His own image." We are all created in the image of God; our identity and value belong entirely to Him. We cannot change God's truth to match human fleshly desires or our wrong choices.

While the disciples ultimately walked boldly in the truth, it is worth noting that they were still human. The New Testament shows that they did struggle, doubt, and ask questions along the way. Thomas doubted until he saw the nail marks in Jesus' hands. The key difference is that when they failed or doubted, they aligned themselves back with Jesus rather than trying to change His teachings to fit their failures or their sinful nature.

In Genesis 2:16-17, God gave Adam and Eve a command in the Garden not to eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. Eve reasoned with the enemy and ate from the tree, and Adam did as well. God gave them a choice, just as we are given choices on this earth. They used their free will to disobey God's single boundary.

The fall corrupted our desires (the flesh), and free will is the tool we use every day to either follow our inherited broken nature or seek God's restoration and His Word.

Jeremiah 17:9 says, "The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it?" There is a continuous battle to fight against this flesh of ours. We can either listen to the enemy and twist the Bible to meet our brokenness or we can stand on God's truth and not be deceived by this world's standards.

Believers still have a dual nature, but the blood of Jesus set us free. The mind must be continually renewed by God's Word to overcome the changing standards and opinions of this world.
