The Fashion Family Affair: The Cypress Co.

Consignment, Community and More

The success and growth of trendsetting “The Cypress Co.” apparel, gift, and home accessory boutique may seem to be happening quickly. However, owner Tiffany Biggs will be the first to tell you it’s a lifelong dream in the making.

Fashion Forward: A Family Affair

Biggs’ interest in fashion started early, with a mother who, while she may have been short on funds, was big in style. She kept her four children beautifully dressed thanks to an unerring thrift-shop eye. Biggs learned early on that good taste didn’t have to be expensive.

A Fresh Start in Crescent City

Fast forward to a new life and fresh start over a decade ago with a new baby in tow, and it wasn’t long before Biggs realized that Crescent City needed a beautifully kept “Upscale Resale” consignment and retail shop. With help from her husband, Rodney Biggs, and her now school-age daughter Olivia (along with her adult daughter, Ashleigh, returning to Crescent City for frequent Store support & painting sessions), she launched “The Cypress Co.” in a 600-square-foot space.

Beautiful Clothes, Prices and Styles for Everybody

Biggs’ vision was to create a store that felt just like any stylish boutique. All consignment clothes and items are fresh, clean, and in excellent condition. Demand for new, beach- and redwood-focused gifts and apparel spurred her to add new retail items within a couple of years of opening.

“It doesn’t matter if you have $5 or $500 to spend, there’s something for you in my shop,” The Cypress Co. founder Tiffany Biggs explained. “Not only that, but everyone here is welcome; we will never Pretty Woman a customer! If you’ve seen the movie, you know what I mean. We are so happy to make residents and guests passing through feel at home.”

The formula was a success. Today, The Cypress Co. has expanded into the space adjacent to their cozy but increasingly too-small space, and an upstairs offers gowns, sequined jackets, men’s tuxes, and special occasion accessories. Downstairs, shoppers will find children’s clothing, toys, women’s and men’s on-trend sportswear, jewelry, and home accessories. If you don’t see what you want in-store, Biggs has been known to dash to her warehouse and come back with special selections for your review.

A Quick Note: Sustainability

The Cypress Co. retail philosophy is quality-first for its clothing and other offerings. Biggs noted how often people make online purchases from a fast fashion retailer, only to be disappointed.

“You’re excited to have the item arrive, only to have it not resemble the online item at all,” she said. “The material doesn’t feel right, the fit isn’t good, you end up wasting money, and that clothing item gets tossed.”

Her commitment is to offer only quality clothes at an excellent price, so customers are pleased with the fashion and happily surprised by the price. It’s been a formula for success – and a more sustainable planet.

Looking Forward

The next chapter for The Cypress Co. is the digital world. Biggs envisions an e-commerce website with shoppable options for the U.S. Looking even further ahead, the family is considering an estate liquidation & sales business, a perfect complement to the consignment focus she is offering Crescent City today.
