Fatal motor vehicle crash in Del Norte County involving pedestrian/bicyclist

The California Highway Patrol is investigating a Vehicle vs Pedestrian/Bicyclist Fatality.

On 11/20/2024 at approximately 1800 hours, Robert Rodriguez was driving a 2023 Ford Transit Van northbound on US-101, south of Humboldt Road in Del Norte County. A male subject was walking or riding his bicycle on the northbound shoulder of US-101, south of Humboldt Road. For reasons still under investigation, the Ford Transit Van collided with the male subject. As a result of the crash, the male subject sustained fatal injuries. The identity of the deceased is being withheld pending notification to the next of kin.

Cal-Trans, Crescent City Fire, Cal-Fire, and California State Parks assisted on scene. The California Highway Patrol is investigating this crash. Drugs or alcohol do not appear to be a factor in this crash. Both northbound and southbound lanes of US-101 remained restricted to one way traffic control during the on-scene investigation.
