Contractor approved for drainage improvement project

The Crescent City Council has approved a $110,700 contract with Hooven & Company, Inc. of McKinleyville to implement a drainage improvement project at the city’s Waste Water Treatment Plant.

City officials solicited bids for the project on Nov. 15, seeking a contractor to keep the plant within state regulations and better manage the drainage onsite. The city received three bids:

— Hooven & Company: $110,700

— GR Sunberg, Inc. of Arcata: $112,600

— Hemmingsen Contracting Co., Inc. of Crescent City: $124,800.

Jon Olson, the city’s public works director, said Hooven & Company would begin work within 30 days.

The estimated completion date is March 9, 2020.

The original budget for project was $400,000, which included an asphalt overlay within the plant. After awarding this portion of the contract, city staff plan to apply the unused portion of the budget toward the remaining asphalt overlay, to be designed and bid as a separate project.
