Supervisors Elect New Chairman

The Board of Supervisors elected Vice Chairman, 4th District Supervisor Joey Borges to Chairman of the 2025 Del Norte Board of Supervisors. 1st District Supervisor Darrin Short was elected Vice-Chair.

Past Chairman Dean Wilson thanked his colleagues and  constituents for their support during his 2024 term.

The Board approved 19 Consent Agenda items, on a 5-0 vote with no discussion on any items.

Supervisors also adopted resolution, establishing a Section 115 Combination Trust and authorizing  participation in the Public Agencies Post-Employment Benefits Trust by Public Agency Retirement Services (PARS) and appoint Chief Administrative Office Neal Lopez as the Plan Administrator.

Earlier last year, the  Board approved a Pension Management Policy to address future accrued liabilities associated with pension benefits.  The CAO announced $1 million would trimmed from Del Norte Cal PERS plan to the PARS plan.

The vote to establish the 115 Trust was unanimous.

The Board also approved adoption of the 2025 Legislative Platform.

Public Speaker Sam Strait called the Platform “worthless” and submitting control over to Sacramento.

The Platform addresses legislative and policy focus including Agriculture, Environment, Natural Resources,  Economic  Development, Health and Human Services, Government Finance, Housing and Land Use, State, Federal and Tribal Lands Management, and Transportation and Infrastructure.

The Platform addresses setting of speed limits along 199 where residents in Hiouchi and Gasquet often complain speed limits are not compatible with local residential use.
