K9 Juno Struck and Injured by Hit and Run Driver, Needs Surgery
Juno needs your help!
Last Thursday was a very dark day in Crescent City. K9 in training, 1 ½ year old Juno was struck by a hit and run driver on west Washington Blvd, near the fire station.
16 year old Police Explorer Jenna Phillips, a Junior at Del Norte High and Juno’s handler arrived to see her precious Juno curled up on the curb, seriously injured. Jenna, with the help of her Dad, gently picked up Juno and rushed her home. An expeditious trip to Town and Country Vet in Harbor revealed she suffered a broken leg and fractured pelvis. Town and Country administered First Aid, an action which saved Juno’s life.
The encouraging news is it looks like Juno is going to make a full recovery but funds are desperately needed. Those wishing to contribute may log on to Go Fund Me, Heal Juno Future Canine Hero.
So far the fund has raised about $3000.
• Juno is a hero (heroine)…
• Explorer Jenna Phillips is a hero (heroine)…
• The Crescent City Police Explorers are heroes
• The Volunteer K9 Unit is an absolute asset to the community.
Juno has been transferred to a K9 specialist vet in Springfield, Oregon for major surgery.
Local efforts to raise additional funding for this valuable asset are underway. God-willing, Juno will fully recover and be a valuable part of CCPD K9 team.
Jenna will graduate next year, attend college and plans to join the CCPD as a K9 handler officer. Jenna is yet another positive asset to the community.
And to the cowardly hit and run driver who struck Juno, words of condemnation fall short. It’s Christmas, full of joy and good will. Turn yourself in and recognize the error you’ve made by leaving the scene.
