Yurok Tribal Police sworn in as Del Norte County deputies

Yurok Tribal Police Chief Greg O'Rourke and four officers of the Yurok Tribal Police Department will be sworn in as reserve county deputies during Tuesday’s Del Norte County Board of Supervisors meeting in Crescent City.

An agreement allows tribal officers to enforce all state and county laws on the reservation, and allows for sharing communication channels.

"We are happy to partner with Del Norte County and Sheriff (Erik) Apperson to provide complete law enforcement coverage for the tribe and our greater community in Klamath," said Chief Greg O'Rourke of the Yurok Tribal Police Department.

"Our region has long been underserved, and this is a great asset to public safety for the Yurok Tribe and our entire community in Del Norte County with our ability to provide mutual aid."

The Yurok Tribal Police Department has established a similar agreement with the Humboldt County Sheriff's Department and will now enforce state and tribal law across the region.
