Volunteer with Redwood Parks Conservancy This August to Restore Coastal Habitats

CRESCENT CITY, Calif. – Redwood Parks Conservancy (RPC), in partnership with California State Parks North Coast Redwoods District, invites the public to volunteer this August to help restore critical coastal and dune habitats across Northern California. These hands-on restoration days will focus on removing invasive non-native plants such as English ivy, European beachgrass, and overgrown vegetation that threatens native species like western azaleas.

Whether you’re passionate about conservation or just looking for a meaningful way to spend time outdoors, these events are a great opportunity to connect with nature and make a difference in your local parks.

All volunteers will receive a free day-use pass to Sue-meg State Park. Trinidad State Beach Saturday, August 9

• 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. Join us for a morning of habitat restoration by removing invasive English ivy. Meet at the intersection of Anderson Lane & Stagecoach Road. Big Dune – Tolowa Dunes State Park Sunday, August 17

• 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Help protect rare coastal dune ecosystems by removing European beachgrass. Meet at the Lake Earl Wildlife Area building: 2591 Old Mill Road, Crescent City, CA 95531 (Note: The work site is about a one-mile hike from the parking location.) Humboldt Lagoons State Park Saturday, August 23

• 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. Support native western azaleas by removing invasive plants and encroaching vegetation. Meet at the Stagecoach Hill Azalea Trailhead on Big Lagoon Ranch Road. All events are free and open to the public.

Volunteers of all ages are welcome (minors must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian).

Need a ride? Free transportation from Crescent City is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Email [email protected] to reserve a seat. What to Bring: Sturdy shoes, a hat, drinking water, and a readiness for moderate physical activity.
