Cal Fire Suspends Burn Permits in Del Norte

The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection has suspended burn permits for Humboldt and Del Norte Counties. 

With a recent increase in Fire activity, higher temperatures, lower fuel moisture, minimal precipitation in the forecast, the threat of wildfire impacting life, property or natural resources is observable.

Del Norte Unit Chief Kurt McCray thanks local citizens who have conducted debris burning safely and helped reduce hazardous wildland fuels

Cal Fire suspends the privileges of burning by permit and other uses of open fire in Humboldt and Del Norte counties.

The order became effective June 30 and will remain in effect until Cal Fire formally terminates this Proclamation.

Here are some tips to help prepare homes and property:

• Clear all headband dying vegetation 100 feet from around all structures.

• Landscape with fire resistant plants  and non flammable ground cover

• Find alternative ways to dispose of landscape debris like chipping or hauling vegetation to a biomass energy or Green waste facility.
