Accidental fire quickly contained at Four Square Church

By Linda Sutter

A small fire at the Four Square Church on August 3 resulted in minor exterior damage after vegetation removal efforts accidentally ignited part of the building.

Church personnel were using a torch to burn weeds along the sidewalk when the flames spread to the exterior wall of the church. The fire was quickly reported; the Crescent City Fire District quickly arrived.

Damage appears to have been confined primarily to an exterior section of the building. Visible damage includes charred siding and exposed framing, but the overall structural damage appears to be minimal. Firefighters were able to contain the fire before it spread further into the church.

No injuries have been reported in connection with the incident.

The pastor of the Four Square Church was unavailable for comment at the time of publication regarding the circumstances of the fire or any plans for repairs.

The incident serves as a reminder that even routine maintenance activities involving open flames or torches can quickly ignite nearby combustible materials, particularly during dry conditions.

Fortunately, the prompt response by the Crescent City Fire District helped limit the damage and prevent what could have become a much more significant fire.
