Nurses Ratify New Contract Improving Patient Safety and Nurse Retention
RNs at Providence St. Joseph Hospital Eureka and Providence Redwood Memorial Hospital ratify three-year contract
EUREKA, CA (MPG) - Registered nurses at Providence St. Joseph Hospital Eureka and Providence Redwood Memorial Hospital in Eureka and Fortuna, Calif., respectively, voted overwhelmingly in favor of ratifying a new three-year contract Oct. 30, winning protections to improve patient safety and nurse retention announced California Nurses Association/National Nurses United (CAN/NNU).
“I’m most encouraged by our ability to preserve language that protects our members from potentially exorbitant increases to health care costs,” Bree Lien, RN said in the intensive care unit at St. Joseph Hospital Eureka.
Highlights of the contract include preservation of the lift team, which will ensure nurses and other staff can care for patients safely; new anti-bullying language to ensure a safe working environment for all staff and preservation of health care cost-sharing. Additional highlights include economic gains to help retain and recruit experienced nurses and no takeaways.
The new pact covers the period July 21, 2026 to July 21, 2029.
CNA represents more than 700 nurses combined at St. Joseph Eureka and Redwood Memorial Hospitals.
