Crescent City gets grant for veterans’ housing
The Crescent City Housing Authority said it received a $52,512 grant in December to assist local homeless veterans in finding housing.
In a press release, U.S. Sen. Dianne Feinstein reported that 27 cities in California will be given a total $10.5 million in grants from the Housing and Urban Development’s Veterans Administration Supportive Housing Program, which includes Crescent City.
The city’s housing authority, which assists low-income families with their rent, reserves 18 federal HUD vouchers for homeless veterans. With the grant funds, the office now will be able to afford an additional 10 vouchers.
“It’s been a really successful program. [We’re] excited to expand on that success and get as many homeless veterans off the street and into permanent housing,” said Megan Miller, director of the Crescent City Housing Authority.
The agency partners with the Veterans Affairs (VA) Health Care System in Roseburg for veterans’ housing. HUD conducts the front-end work, such as screening, sources and referrals, and the VA continues case management after the veterans are housed.
