Frost Advisory Issued for North Coast and Interior Valleys
Overnight temperatures expected to dip to 32°F across North Coast and Interior valleys; residents urged to protect sensitive plants.
NORTH COAST – The National Weather Service has issued a frost advisory for early Friday morning, warning residents across Del Norte, Humboldt, Mendocino, and Lake counties to protect sensitive vegetation.
The advisory is in effect from 1:00 AM to 9:00 AM PDT Friday. Temperatures are expected to dip as low as 32 degrees, creating conditions ripe for frost formation.
Impacted Areas
The advisory covers a broad stretch of Northern California, including:
- Coastal & Interior Humboldt: Eureka, Arcata, Fortuna, and Garberville.
- Mendocino County: Ukiah, Willits, Fort Bragg, and Boonville.
- Lake County: Lakeport and surrounding valleys.
- Interior Del Norte: Gasquet and inland areas.
Protect Your Plants
Forecasters warn that frost could damage or kill sensitive outdoor plants if they are left uncovered. Residents are encouraged to move potted plants indoors or cover outdoor garden beds this evening.
The "Fog Factor"
Meteorologists noted that some valleys may see overnight fog, which acts as a blanket and keeps temperatures slightly warmer. However, because it is difficult to predict exactly which valleys will see fog, those in clear areas remain at the highest risk for freezing temperatures.
Take precautions now to ensure your spring blossoms survive the overnight chill.
