Barbara Lee Hall was born on March 21, 1934, in Watsonville, California, and passed away peacefully on July 10, 2025, in Santa Rosa, California.
Barbara was the youngest daughter of Joseph William Hall and Ida Lucile Hall, and the beloved sister of Billie Jo Hall. In 1945, the family moved to Smith River, California, where Barbara attended Smith River Elementary School and later graduated from Del Norte High School. She went on to attend Humboldt State University alongside her sister Billie and other close friends. Her older cousin Betty Lucile Tyler (Gray) also attended Humboldt State University. The trio all obtained degrees to pursue a career in the field of education. Barbara and Billie were avid travelers for educational studies. They shared educational pursuits and adventurous travels with college friends.
In the mid-1950s, Barbara embraced a unique opportunity to teach elementary school on a U.S. military base in Germany. She later settled in Walnut Creek, California, where she taught at Woodside Elementary School in Concord for 32 years. Barbara was a dedicated educator and a proud member of Walnut Creek United Methodist Church.
After retiring in 1987, Barbara returned to Smith River to be closer to her family and care for her aging parents. She lived next door to her sister Billie, and the two continued their life of service and shared passions. Barbara was the first person in Smith River to donate land to Habitat for Humanity, reflecting her generous spirit and commitment to community.
A lifelong Methodist, Barbara was a faithful member of the Smith River United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday School and served on the church board. She also volunteered at the Smith River Library and the Smith River Heritage Association. As lifelong educators, Barbara and Billie were proud supporters of the Del Norte Scholarship Foundation.
Barbara is survived by her devoted sister Billie Hall, and by cousins Deanne, Carrie, and Sondra - daughters of her dear late cousin Betty (Tyler) Gray, also of Smith River and Sacramento.
