Tell It Like It Is

A storm is brewing in the halls of Sacramento, and the forecast is grim: unaccountability is running amok. Behind the closed doors of the Democrat-led legislature, a new wave of deceit is being codified into law, designed to bury financial corruption away from the prying eyes of the taxpayers.

One of the most alarming weapons in this arsenal is Assembly Bill 1608. This is not just a bill; it is a gag order. It grants the high-speed rail inspector general the power to shield the public from the truth, allowing the government to hide management failures, policy weaknesses, and reckless expenditures that would spark public outrage. With the project’s staggering $126.2 billion price tag and a history of missing business plan deadlines and extraordinarily little track laid since being passed by the voters in 2008, the message is clear: they don’t want you to know where your money is disappearing. Even the new billion-dollar legislative “Taj Mahal” is shrouded in non-disclosure agreements, effectively killing transparency in the name of political protection.

But while Sacramento sinks into secrecy, a different story is unfolding locally. Del Norte County Clerk/Recorder Alissia Northrup and her team stand as a testament to what government should look like. In an era of political confusion, her office remains a sanctuary of efficiency and pleasant service, expertly navigating the labyrinth of state regulations to ensure our voter rolls are as accurate as the state allows. They are the unsung heroes keeping the gears of democracy turning smoothly.

The stakes have never been higher. California boasts the 4th largest economy in the world, yet we are being crushed by a paradox of failures: the highest cost of living, soaring unemployment, rampant poverty, a homelessness crisis, and a failing education system.

It is time to stop judging our leaders by their “noble intentions” and start holding them accountable for their devastating results. As Milton Friedman famously warned, judging programs by their intent rather than their outcome is one of the greatest mistakes a society can make.

Are you tired of the high prices at the gas pump, grocery store, pharmacy, and insurance? Are you frustrated by an education system that is failing our children? Truth is Truth. Don’t vote with your emotions, vote with your mind. Use your ballot as a precision tool to dismantle the policies making life unaffordable and demand a California that works for its people again. The future is in your hands. Vote wisely.
