The State Threw a Party, and Nobody Came!
The wind keeps blowing Californians to another state.
The wind keeps blowing and it seems to have blown the voters in California to another state, because they certainly didn’t show up at the ballot box.
We need to evaluate the winners and losers and it’s not pretty. Approximately 70% of registered voters in Del Norte County did not vote, and you should be ashamed of yourselves.
But we are not alone in a lackluster turnout because the rest of the state had close to the same percentage.
What is it about registered voters who do not turn in their ballots? Elections are not lost by fraud and cheating. In most cases, but by apathy of the voters.
The losers in this primary are the people, the state, and the candidates.
The People, because only 15% of the voters decided who will be running in November.
The State, because despite the enormous cost of the election, some of the most qualified and honest candidates might not have won, due to the small number of active voters.
The Candidates, because it showed their inability to connect with largest number of their base and motivate them to turn in their ballots.
For those who did not vote, don’t complain. To anyone who complains about high gas or food prices, my question will be: “DID YOU VOTE”?
If they say yes, then I will complain right along with them.
The polls show that the public is fed up and tired of government controls and mandates, yet the low voter turnout shows that the overwhelming majority of voters, must be happy with the unaffordability of California!
Citizens, if you want a voice for change you need to VOTE. Excuses are simply not acceptable--unless you are an elected politician, then it is expected -- the state legislators have given you the opportunity to cast a ballot with extended time-frames. These laws have been in force for the last six years and what has happened? Fewer people are voting, not more.
Why is it that voters turn out for Presidential elections but not state government elections?
Is the populus so uneducated as to what is at stake in state elections? State and local elections affect you directly in your pocketbook. Federal elections, not as much.
Affordability is a local issue, starting with city and county elected officials, as they pass regulations-- from land issues, to building permits and business licenses.
State representatives control the costs of energy and insurance, as well as restrictions on land usage, and myriads of taxes and fees.
Our living expenses are directly related to state government decisions, not federal. If you want change, let your voice be heard.
I don’t care what party you belong to, support, agree or disagree with, every American citizen should vote so we don’t all become losers! No one wins when we don’t exercise our constitutional right to vote.
