Heuberger Grandchildren Shine in Track, Softball
On Saturday, May 2, 2026, Alexis Heuberger climbed one more rung on the ladder of success as she took first place in California Community College Athletic Association’s (3C2A) Northern California Regional Track and Field meet held in Santa Rosa, CA.
She competed in four events, taking first in Women’s Javelin. She threw 42.06 meters or 138 feet. Her closest contender in the state threw 40.73 meters or 133’7”.
About 10 months ago, Alexis would have never dreamed of being a state leader in javelin, let alone competing in track & field. After two concussions her senior year of high school, she gave up her first love, playing softball at the collegiate level.
After one year attending Palomar Junior College in San Marcos, CA, she decided to come home and go to College of the Redwoods in Eureka. She set up classes on Tuesday and Thursdays and then came home to work Friday through Monday in her hometown of Klamath.
While she was waiting to sign up for classes, the track coach, Eric Wright, also known as “Coach Bobo”, approached her and asked her if she runs track. She told him no, that she was a softball player. He then proceeded to ask her if she was interested in competing in field events. She was interested and decided to go out and try.
Javelin came natural to her and Coach Bobo reassured her that she would be competitive. Since then, she added on shot put and discus where she has been competitive in the smaller meets, placing 1st in discus and 3rd place in the Golden Valley Conference held at Butte College two weeks ago.
Then she added the hammer which at first intimidated her, but now she is getting into the “swing of it”. Friday, May 15, she will have the opportunity to compete against the entire state of champions at Mt. San Antonio for the state championships.
Alexis is currently studying marine biology and is looking to transfer to a four-year college.
Alexis’s older sister, Josephine Heuberger, has had a successful collegiate experience in softball. After high school, Del Norte High, she played two years as a 2nd baseman for Palomar Junior College where she was awarded All American two years in a row, 2024 and 2025.
She was named to the All-Southern California Team in 2024. She was recruited to play for the Lipscomb Bisons in Nashville, Tennessee, a D1 school. It has been her dream since she was 8 years old to play D1 softball.
At Lipscomb, she started in the 2nd baseman position, but has moved to the left side of the field and has taken over the shortstop position. Her softball season is over for the year, but she is looking forward to another season next year. She is a biology major and is interested in pursuing natural resources as a career.
We are not done with the Heuberger sisters. The youngest sister, Halle, is starting to make her mark as an 8th grader. April 30 at the Del Norte County Middle School track meet held at the Del Norte High School,
She placed first in 200 meter hurdles and high jump, 3rd in 400 meter run, and 4th in the 200 meter run. She holds the Crescent Elk Middle School records for long jump, high jump, 200 m hurdles, and the 200 m run. It will be exciting to see what she does in high school.
She is not only adept in track and field, but she plays on the Krackens volleyball travel team, and Crescent Elk basketball and volleyball teams.
Hi, I am the grandmother to three Del Norte students who have excelled!. I brag on facebook a lot, but they really need recognition on a larger scale. Josephine graduated DNHS in 2022, Lexie graduated from Grants Pass HS, but attended DNHS her freshman through junior years, and Halle will be attending DNHS next year. They are all excellent students.
